Natural selection is the major driving force for evolutionary change
Often referred to as “survival of the fittest”
Individuals cannot adapt to their environment; they are adapted or are not; adapted individuals will survive and produce more offspring
Natural selection requires genetic variation and variation (degree of adaptation) must be inherited genetically
