Morphogenesis of Plant Embryo
Morphogenesis = development of form
Cotyledons develop from “bulges” in globular proembryo, NOT from apical meristem; eudicots - 2 cotyledons, monocots - 1 cotyledon
Food storage: embryo must live of food storage until young plant penetrates soil and reaches light to develop photosynthetic system
Endosperm: may be solid (corn), liquid (coconut), or fully used up during embryogenesis (fleshy cotyledons then contain the food reserves)
