Courtship: signaling by color, patterns, dances, songs; act as trigger for behavioral response chain that leads to mating/reproduction;signals often species-specific (bird songs) ? reproductive isolation
Long-distance communication: pheromones
Social groups: alarm calls, alarm pheromones, trail pheromones
Honeybee dances: direction to food “danced” as angle between hive and sun and food
Languages: mammals can have different alarm sounds for different predators/dangers; all 3000 human languages built from 40 common consonant sounds, babies are acquainted with and learn to recognize native language already before birth
