Evolution of Communities
Holistic concept of communities: communities are interconnected units of all community members; communities evolve coherent, such as organs (heart, lung, liver) in an organisms’ body
Individualistic concept of communities: while species within a community are interconnected (community ecology), individual species evolve (come and go) independently
Ecotones: places of drastic change in environment (e.g. interface between ocean and land; grassland and forest) ? community changes across several species
