    Second Mid-Term Exam

    Here below are the results of the second mid-term exam. The graph shows the overall distribution of grades. Numbers on top of the bars indicate the percentage of exams in the corresponding grade class. It has become clear and obvious which students attempted to pass this course by just learning last year's exams, and class attendance rates also cleary reflect this attitude. The results of this mid-term exam show that not attending class and merely learning last year's exams is not a productive strategy to pass this course!
    Please, review your individual scores from the score table, idenitifying your specific exam by your Panther I.D. For your information, the correct answer key to the questions of the second mid-term exam is listed at the end of this page. Since the exam comprised 48 questions, your score (in %) is calculated as {correct answers} / 48 x 100. All students who did not participate in the exam will be scored with zero point for the second mid-term exam. If you have participated in the second mid-term exam but you do not see your scores listed here below, you might not be officially enrolled in this course. In this case, please check your enrollment status and potential administrative drops and confer with the Registrar's Office to re-establish your enrollment. Your score will be communicated once your enrollment in the course is officially reinstated.

    CORRECTED/UPDATED EXAM RESULTS: All exams were re-graded based on a previously incorrectly posted and now corrected answer key.
    Question #18: The previously posted answer C was, in fact, incorrect for this question. The correct answer was B. All students who marked B as their answer have received one additional point (= number of correct answers; corresponding to 2.08%). The correction of the answer key to this question also lead to a few students losing one point if they had marked the incorrect answer C in their exam sheet.
    Question #31: The previously posted answer C was, in fact, incorrect for this question. The correct answer was B. All students who marked B as their answer have received one additional point. However, since several students reported that I had mistakenly told the wrong answer (i.e. answer A) during my lecture, although the correct answer being B was clearly seen in the online lecture notes, I want to honor my mispoken information during lecture; therefore, question A is still accepted for this question. Thus, all students received their point for either answer A or B.
    Question #8: The correct answer to this question was correctly posted as A. Nematodes do possess an exoskeleton (cuticle) made from chitin. This information was discussed at least three times during the lectures: (1) when discussing the nematodes; (2) when discussing the echinoderms, when we discussed the differences between exo- and endoskeletons; (3) when discussing the chordates, when we discussed the advantages of an endoskeleton over an exoskeleton.
    Question #43: Doubt was raised in class that leeches do not have a clitellum; it was mentioned that a lab instructor in the General Biology lab stated that only the earthworm (oligochaetes) have a clitellum. The latter information is incorrect, leeches do have, in fact, a clitellum during reproduction. For information on this topic in addition to your textbook and lecture notes, see for example www.amonline.net.au/factsheets/leeches.htm and scroll down to the section on "Reproduction".

    Grade Scale:
    A = 100-85%; B = 84-75%; C = 74-65%; D = 64-55%; F = <55%
    Plus- and Minus-grades will computed for the final course grade only
