Prerequisites to conquer land:
Legs to support body weight and for movement
Lungs to extract oxygen from the air (gills would not work because they would collapse and dry out)
Heart re-design to deliver more oxygen to muscles
Reproduction remained in water until methods evolved that prevented eggs from drying out
Body had to be protected from drying out
