The Prokaryotes
The groups of prokaryotes:bacteria (bacteria & cyanobacteria) and archaea
Characteristics of prokaryotes:
- no organelles (chloroplasts, nucleus, mitochondria)
- no chromosomes, DNA circular strand
- no sexual reproduction, no meiosis
- unicellular (some form colonies, but their cytoplasm is not interconnected)
- flagella, if present, do not show 9+2 microtubuli structure, only one protein strand
- small cell size (mostly ə µm)
